Levenshulme Baths & Library.

The future of Levenshulme Swimming baths continues to be a questionable one, the last few years has seen threats of closures and passionate (successful) protests by locals.  The Council says they can’t afford the building’s upkeep and that there is a compelling case to replace the old facility.

Recently the council announced a proposed plan to create a new facility in Levenshulme, encompassing a library and swimming baths.

The full report can be read if you click this link.

The library building is a protected Carnegie building, which means it has historic significance and due to this, there will have to be an appraisal for the future use of the existing library building.  However, there is no mention in the council’s report of the future of the swimming baths building.  The website's 'FAQ' page states "The swimming pool is not being considered for any alternative use once the proposed new facility is open."

There is a survey on the Manchester City Council website, where you can give your opinions and feedback on this.  Resident’s have until Saturday 24 June 2012 to take part in the consultation.  So here is the link, have your say Levenshulme!
